Microsoft Access Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close Error and Repair

Sometimes, when you try to open an existing database, or to create a new database by using MS Access, Access may stop unexpectedly. Further, you may get an error message showing:

This error occurs when you transmit the AD (Application Data) folder to a different folder on the computer by using “Group Policy”. Access can not recognize the target folder if the target folder name is different (i.e. not Application Data).

The Application Data folder name must be used in the folder redirection path for the Application Data folder. In this case you access database may corrupt.

You can resolve this problem by modifying the Group Policy and redirection path of the Application Data folder. You can modify them by following these steps:

1. Open Group Policy Editor of your computer.
2. In the left pane, expand User Configuration, expand Windows Settings and then expand Folder Redirection.
3. Right click on Application Data and then click on Properties.
4. In the Properties dialog box, click Target tab. Make sure that the target folder’s name is Application Data in the Target folder location box
5. Click Ok and Close.
6. Log off and then log on to computer
7. Start the database.

In this way, you can repair you access database. But it is not safe; it might possible that your registry may get corrupted in this process. Or it is not sure that this process will work in your case, because your database may corrupt when you try to open it without modify the Group Policy or redirecting the Application Data folder path.
