Can’t Find the Database you Specified Error and Recovery

Sometimes, when try to open MS Access 97 by double clicking the Access.exe file or a shortcut, you may get following error message:

“Can't find the database you specified, or you didn't specify a database at all- Specify a valid database in the command line and include a path if necessary”

When you try to start an Access Database by double clicking the .mdb file or by a shortcut, you will find that it opens, but you can’t see the database window or the default toolbars and menus.

This error message may occur when you have installed the MS Office 2000 on the computer and it already has Access 97 and a runtime application built on Access 97 installed. In this case, the Office 2000 setup recognized the existence of Access 97 run time application on the system, but it removed some registry keys and files those are required for the full file versions of Access 97 to work correctly.

You can resolve this problem by reinstalling the MS Office 97. In this situation, you have to uninstall the MS Office 2000 and you can not perform the task for which you have installed the MS Office 2000.

After reinstalling the Office 97, it is not essential that you will be able to access these files because it might possible that the particular files got corrupted when you tried to access the database again and again.
